WW Dolphins Reminders- Masks & Practice Procedures

    Waynewood Dolphins Midweek Reminders

    June 2, 2021

    Dolphin Families,

Our first week of practice is going well--It is great to see the Dolphins coming together!  Our Team Reps, Frederick and Tom, have a couple reminders that will help to expedite the start of practice every day:

    1.  All Swimmers should come to practice wearing a mask.

This mask policy, which differs from WRA pool rules, has been put in place as a result of guidance from the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL). NVSL may impose a rule this year requiring swimmers to wear masks at meets, including when they are in the team areas. This season, our swimmers need to make a mask a part of their swim kit. Your help in ensuring that they come to practice wearing a mask will help our coaches expedite the start of practice.

    2. All swimmers should gather OUTSIDE the gate by the lap pool before their practice.

Even if a swimmer is already at the pool prior to the start of practice, please have them head outside with a mask on a few minutes before practice starts. Taking daily attendance is another step in NVSL's season guidelines and your help in getting swimmers to the right place prior to the start of practice will help us get started in time.

As a reminder, we are resending the complete 2021 season Procedures for Practices that we shared with you earlier this week:

Masks – Swimmers need to bring a mask to practice. They will not be required to wear the mask during swimming and other athletic training but there may be activities or unpredictable events (like thunderstorms) when it is needed. Social distancing will also be part of our safety preparations.

Backpack/Bag/BasketAll swimmers should bring items (i.e. towel, goggles, mask, fins) to practice in a container. Items when not in use, should be placed in the personal container. This will keep our swimmers organized and reduce the chance that towels end up together in a pile or in a lost and found.

Illness/symptoms NVSL requires us to conduct daily screenings of swimmers and we are asking our coaches to be vigilant about any swimmers showing signs of illness. They have been directed to err on the side of safety when dealing with coughs, temperature, fatigue, etc. If a child is not feeling well, please DO NOT send them to practice. Swimmers exhibiting symptoms of illness will be pulled from practice and parents may be contacted to pick them up early. Please direct any questions or concerns about this policy or its enforcement to the Team Reps. If your swimmer does test positive for Covid, please let the team reps know so that we can work with health authorities on contact tracing as necessary.

Bathrooms – Swimmers should arrive to practice in their swim suits and “pool-ready.” Please plan on having swimmer use of bathrooms/locker rooms for emergencies only and take necessary steps before practice. If this becomes a reoccurring issue, parents will be contacted

Parent attendance – Parents are welcome to watch practice from outside the fence or at a distance. We would like the swimmers to focus on the coaches and look to them for assistance on deck and in the pool.

Thank you for helping our Coaches make this an awesome season for our Swimmers!  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our Team Reps via email.
