1.Time Trials – Saturday, June 12th at 8am (warm ups at 7am)

It is important for all swimmers (except Little Dolphins) to attend Time Trials, if possible. This is where we get our baseline times for the season to determine who swims in what meets. If your swimmer cannot be at Time Trials on Saturday, please make an effort next week to sign up for the June 14th Home B meet to get times recorded before the first A meet. If you are new to Time Trials or need a refresher, please read the attachment - “All About Time Trials”.

Sign-ups for Time Trials are already open and will stay open until Wednesday at 8pm. We want every swimmer to swim each stroke they can legally swim. Coaches will assess 10 & Under swimmers this week during practices to see who is ready to swim Breaststroke and/or Fly. Here is the link to sign up.

Please note: There is a Swimtopia App for your phone. We encourage you to download it. It allows you to receive weather cancellation alerts, see the schedule, what strokes your swimmer is signed up for, and your own volunteer shifts. The Swimtopia App does not allow you to sign up for meets or volunteer shifts. These must be done via the website.

2. Meets Will Look Different in 2021

NVSL has given clubs safety guidance on hosting meets. We describe for you below the plans for our meets, however for meets hosted by other clubs, it is possible (though not certain) that they may take very different approaches and we will update you on this week to week.  At this time, we do not have details on meet plans for other pools and it will be important to pay attention to guidance we will share before meets take place.

Meets at Waynewood: We plan for all meets hosted by Waynewood (including Time Trials) to take place in person and the format of meets will follow that of past years.  Per agreement with WRA, the pool deck will be closed to all spectators and volunteers not deemed essential for the meet. Thankfully, our meet pool is adjacent to a large field that will be open to spectators. Pool chairs/tables will not be made available (but you may bring your own or a blanket to the field).  Below is our diagram of current plans for meets at Waynewood:

Other Notes on the Season

We are excited and grateful for our terrific coaching staff, the support of the WRA Board and membership, parents and other community members stepping up to assist with sponsorships and volunteer roles, as well as our enthusiastic swimmers.

Uncertainty, including whether certain meet events will be held and the potential for new health and safety guidance continues to be part of our season. We have reluctantly decided to replace our traditional team Potluck dinner on June 11 with a simple parent meeting but are keeping an open mind for the end-of-season banquet. This should still be a fun year for the swim team and we want to think outside the box for ideas and innovations that can make this year especially positive.

 As you observe meets, practices, and other team events we would appreciate your constructive feedback to guide our efforts as we move forward. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you!

3. National Anthem Singers and Musicians!

We are looking for a swimmer or group of swimmers to sing or play the National Anthem on their instrument(s) at each of our Home events this season. Dates needed:

Time Trials – Saturday, 6/12 - 8am

B meet v. Mount Vernon Park – Monday, 6/14- 6pm

A meet v. Villa Aquatic – Saturday, 6/19 – 9am

B meet v. Hollin Meadows – Monday, 6/21 – 6pm

A meet v. Ravensworth Farm – Saturday, 6/26 – 9am

A meet v. Lakevale Estates- Saturday, 7/10 - 9am

B meet v. Mansion House – Monday, 7/12 – 6pm

Dolphin Duel –Thursday, 7/22 – 6pm

If you are interested, please send your contact information, an audition recording, and your available dates to our Team Reps by 9pm, Sunday June 13th.

4. Dolphin Volunteers Shifts

Volunteers are a crucial part of our swim team and your assistance is essential to ensure that the team is well-organized and operates efficiently for the benefit of our kids. We need each family (Dolphins and Little Dolphins) to volunteer at least 4 times during the season. We respectfully ask that families with more than one swimmer consider volunteering for additional shifts.

Please note that per May NVSL guidance, all volunteers at warm-ups and swim meets will be required to wear a mask.

Sign ups for the first couple of meets will go live Tuesday at 8pm. At that time, you can select jobs on the Meets and Events page of our website. For this first opening, we ask you to only sign up for 1 or 2 shifts per family in order to give everyone an opportunity to participate in these home meets and perhaps try out a new skill.
