1.NVSL Guidance Change
This week, the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) sent teams updated Covid-19 safety guidance. The Waynewood Dolphins Swim Team has conferred with WRA and starting Thursday is moving to a mask optional policy for fully vaccinated individuals including: coaches, officials, swimmers 12 and older, and most meet volunteers. To be considered fully vaccinated, one must have had their second vaccine (or first if receiving the J&J vaccine) more than two weeks ago.
This policy modification does not apply to or change mask requirements for:
- Concessions volunteers while working shifts, regardless of vaccination status
- Any swimmers who have not yet turned 12
- Any swimmer, coach, official, or volunteer who is not fully vaccinated
This policy applies to all practices, home meets, and other team events when individuals are in team or meet areas. Compliance will be primarily honor system based. The swim team may consider further revisions based on new NVSL guidance and other factors as the season progresses. Please reach out to our Team Reps if you have questions or concerns.
2. Time Trials Volunteers Still Needed
We have had a very good response to our first release of volunteer slots. Thank you to those who have already signed up. There are some positions that are still open and we want to encourage everyone to fill them up so that our meet can run smoothly. Everyone can do the listed jobs, they are fairly simple and we offer on-the-job training. Here are some quick descriptions of areas of need. You can refer to the Parent Handbook on the website for more detail:
Marshal – Think grown-up Safety Patrol usually with an excellent view of the pool.
Tables – data entry, filing, putting stickers on ribbons. Shady in a good way.
Clerk of Course – Organizing kids in a row, numbering cards, herding cute cats
Please don’t hesitate to contact our Team Reps, Tom and Frederick, at [email protected] with any questions.
3. A Meets, B Meets, Sign-ups & Availability
If you are new to the team and are unfamiliar with A & B meets, read the attachment “What are A & B meets and who gets to swim in them?”
Every week, all our Swimmers (except Little Dolphins) need to:
1) Sign up in order to participate in Monday night B meets and
2) Indicate their availability to swim in Saturday morning A meets.
Signing up for B meets allows us to print swimmer timecards ahead of time and speed the meet along. The deadline for B meet sign-ups is Noon on Sunday before the B meet. The first B meet is open for sign ups now

For A meets, we need everyone to tell us if they are available for each A meet so that we have a true picture of the pool of swimmers from which to choose. All non-Little Dolphin Swimmers should indicate their availability for Saturday morning’s A meets. Do not assume that your child will not be selected! It takes many swimmers to fill the lanes. The deadline for indicating availability for A meets is on Mondays by 11pm for the next Saturday’s A meet. If you already know your schedule, the first A meet is open to indicate availability. https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
Go Dolphins!
