Dolphin Families,
It’s an exciting week with a lot of “Firsts!” Below you’ll find details on all our events this week. We want to be excellent hosts Monday for Mount Vernon Park. You can help us by filling in some of the 10 remaining volunteer slots for the meet (see below). We also have two volunteer reminders:
- Meet officials including Timers, Clerks, Marshals should wear the standard “uniform” of a plain white shirt and blue shorts. This is somewhat relaxed at B meets but essential at A meets.
- We ask our volunteers to avoid canceling out of a volunteer shift within 24 hours of an event. If you must cancel, please first make an attempt to find a backup from a friend or neighbor in the Dolphin family! Then let our volunteer coordinator, Heather Vieira, know by texting 202-441-3347.
Monday, June 14th
- First day of Morning Practice. No afternoon practice due to our B meet. Schedule posted on our website https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/
- First B Meet @ Home- WW v. Mt. Vernon Park – 6pm
Swimmers should arrive at our pool at 4:45pm for a 5:00pm warm up. The meet starts at 6p.m. Please leave our parking lot open for our guests! Please walk, bike, or park legally and considerately on our neighborhood streets. This is a very popular and fun meet since a lot of our swimmers attend school with MVP swimmers. Both our teams have lots of 8 & Under swimmers so hang in there! The meet will proceed in standard order (Free, Back, Breast, Fly and IM—if time allows).
Please Note: Swimmers should remain in the Team Area until they are finished swimming for the evening. Coaches are focused on the meet and the team area and cannot retrieve swimmers from wall ball court, recreation pool, spectator or concessions area for their heat. Thank you!
Volunteers Needed: 2 clerks, 4 Marshals, 3 Concessions workers, and a Table Worker. Sign up here: https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
Tuesday, June 15th
- First day of Little Dolphins – Swim Test Times: 12-12:30pm or 5:30-6pm
- First day of Afternoon Practice - See practice schedule at https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/
Thursday, June 17th
- First Teen Night – Dolphin Kickball!
The teens are celebrating the beginning of Summer with a kickball tournament on WRA grounds. The teens will meet up at WW pool between 6 and 6:30 to form teams. Remember to wear appropriate footwear!
IMPORTANT: Participants must be registered Waynewood Dolphin swimmers and be 13 or above on the date of the teen night to attend. Please respect that no exceptions will be made.
Friday, June 18th
- First Pep Rally – “Motivational T-shirts” 6pm outside the pool house
Coach Dylan asks that everyone bring a plain Blue or White T-shirt to the pep rally on Friday to decorate with Dolphin Spirit. The results are always really cool. Paint and masking tape will be provided. If our more artistic Dolphins want to get a head start, they are welcome to make stencils ahead of time and bring them to the Pep Rally. It will be great to see our Dolphins sporting these T-shirts at practices and events! In addition, there will be cheers and the announcement of the week’s practice monsters ....don't miss it!
Helpful hint: contact paper makes for an excellent stencil.
Saturday, June 19th
- Home A meet - Waynewood v. Villa Aquatic - 9am
Make sure that you have indicated your Swimmers’ availability or non-availability by 11pm on Monday, June 14th! Swimmers will be notified no later than Thursday if they are participating in this meet. More details will be provided later in the week.
