Waynewood Dolphins Mid-Week Message

1. Dolphins surpass their 30 minute Goal!

With more than a week left in the 2021 Season, the Dolphins have already exceeded their goal of dropping 30 minutes from their times as a team! After Monday’s B meet, the Coaches tallied our swimmer’s time improvements and the Dolphins are 33 minutes faster than they were at the beginning of the season! Way to go Dolphins—keep it going!

2. Last Call for Dolphin Prom

Teens can sign still sign up at practices tomorrow. Bring $15 to cover Noodles & Co. for entrees. It’s a progressive dinner walking through the neighborhood starting at 6pm. See the calendar below for the planned route!

3. Volunteers still needed for Saturday’s A Meet

We have 7 open volunteer positions for Saturday’s A meet at Sleepy Hollow Bath & Racquet. We have to hold up our end of running the meet. If your swimmer is in the meet, click here to do your part and grab one of these volunteer slots!

4. Monday’s IM Meet! July 19^th MVP @ Waynewood 6pm

It’s happening! Our Team Reps, Frederick and Tom have arranged a replacement meet for the larger IM Invitational that in a normal year would be happening on Monday Night. The season-end IM Meet will be a dual-team contest with swimmers from Waynewood and Mount Vernon Park. To be eligible to swim, swimmers must have either

1) a valid B-Meet IM time this season OR

2) valid times on both breaststroke and butterfly this season.

8 & unders who meet this criteria are eligible to swim. You will see in the sign ups that the event for that age is listed as 10 & Under IM. As they always do, our clerks will do their best to group swimmers with similar times in the same heat. Meet sign ups are open here. Stay tuned for the volunteer sign ups.

As this is a bonus meet, we ask that a parent of all swimmers take an extra volunteer shift in this meet and/or one in Thursday's Dolphin Duel meet.

5. Additional Dolphin Deadlines

• Indicate Availability for Divisionals here ASAP – Eligible Swimmers need to select strokes with Coach Dylan by Monday at 11pm
• Sign up for the Dolphin Duel here by Tuesday, July 20
• Purchase Tickets for the Banquet here by Tuesday, July 20

6. Remaining Calendar for the Week

Thursday, July 15th – Teen Night – Dolphin Prom!

• It’s the Dolphin Prom for our teens! Dress is “As Classy As You Wanna Be”. You might want to wear your “sensible shoes” though…It’s a walking progressive dinner.
• Teens should sign up at practice and bring $15 to cover Noodles & Co. for entrees.
• The Teens will be meeting Thursday evening at 6:00pm at the Dushaw’s (8602 Conover Pl) finalize their food order and enjoy appetizers. From there, the teens will head to the pool to take many photos. Just like real prom, parents are welcome (or should I say briefly tolerated) to come and snap pics! Following that, the teens will make the short trip to the Lohmann’s for their entrees (8602 is again the house number, but this time on Cyrus Pl.). On their last leg (literally), the teens will arrive at the Hoppers (1131 Neal Dr.) for dessert and camaraderie around the pool (bring your swim suits & a towel!). The whole event should wrap up around 10ish.

Friday, July 16th at 6pm – Pep Rally – The Pie in the Coaches Face!

• A timeless classic involving trivia questions and lots of whipped cream. Of course, we will announce practice monsters and decorate our sidewalks with Dolphin Spirit! Stay tuned for more details.

Saturday, July 17th – Last A meet – Waynewood @ Sleepy Hollow Bath & Racquet – 9am

Swimmers should be up at the pool at 7:10am to decorate cars with the caravan departing at 7:30 for Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet (SHBR) at 3516 Sleepy Hollow Rd, Falls Church, VA 22044. Don’t be fooled. Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association (SHRA) is right next door. Make sure that you pull into the correct lot! If you choose to drive separately, you are required to email our Team Reps ahead of time. Please remember to do this, we do not want to be calling people at 7am to locate or replace swimmers.
