1.Thanks for the Memories!
We had a wonderful End-Of-Season celebration on Saturday. A Big Thank you goes out to Karin and Greg Dushaw and their team of volunteers for our wonderful dinner! We are particularly thankful to those who dropped everything at 3:00pm and pitched in with set up for the event.
2. And then there was Bling! Trophies, Plaques, Ribbons
Mary Winkler did a terrific job as our Trophies coordinator again this year. With a record 282 swimmers this year and a very short turn around, we keep raising the level of difficulty! Thank you, Mary for always rising to the occasion!
If you were unable to attend the Awards Ceremony, you can pick up your swimmers' trophies at the Waynewood Pool House any time the pool is open. The Trophies are arrayed in the pool house to the left of the check in desk. Ribbons are in their usual spot in the family folders. If you have a friend or neighbor who is out of town, you can pick up their trophy for them. Just make sure they know you have done so.
3. Waynewood Dolphins Swim Team 2021 Slide Show
Dolphins Slideshows are our version of a yearbook. It is great at the end of the season to look back at all the fun we’ve had. Colin Keightley created this year’s version, organizing and adding music to a wide selection of photos from our outstanding and ever-present photographers Rob Bluey and Brett Gibson as well as other parents. A DVD of the slideshow is available in the online store on Swimtopia. Ordering closes Sunday, August 1st at midnight.

5. Thank you for Volunteering!
As you all know, it takes a large number of volunteers to every meet in our season, and you all made it happen! You all have created this awesome environment of fun, social and physical activity for our swimmers. I assure you, they will remember.
Heather Vieira did a great job populating, overseeing, adjusting and further adjusting our volunteer portion of Swimtopia, and then gently reminding folks where additional help was needed. Thank you, Heather!
6. Team Reps 2023-2024
We would like to identify Team Reps for the 2023-2024 summer seasons. A summer of shadowing is very beneficial and highly recommended for a smooth transition. If you are interested in learning more about the role of Team Rep, please contact Frederick and Tom at [email protected].
7. Waynewood Winter Swim
Winter Swim is moving to Mount Vernon Rec Center (2017 Belle View Blvd) and registration will be opening Next week!
Winter swim will have two practice sessions this year, Sundays at 6 pm and 7 pm. Swimmers will be assigned to the early or late practice by age/ability and an effort will be made to place siblings in practice together (if desired). The season will begin September 19, 2021 and end May 22, 2022. Stay tuned--More info on cost, application, etc. will be coming next week.
We are accepting coach applications now through Sunday, August 15th.
For those interested in Coaching Winter Swim, the time commitment is every Sunday for one or two of these practice sessions beginning September 19, 2021 and ending May 22, 2022 at Mount Vernon Rec Center. You must be at least 14 years old as of June 1, 2021 to apply. The coaching application instructions are available here. Please send your information by the end of the day Sunday, August 15 to our Team Reps ([email protected]) who will be working with returning Winter Swim Stephanie Angle to start our off-season program.
8. Additional Winter Swim Opportunities
There are a few Teams that have year round winter swimming at our local indoor pools. They have great swim programs. I've included their websites if you are interested in finding out more:
- Potomac Marlins/Fort Belvoir Swim Team https://www.teamunify.com/team/pvpm/page/home
- Nation’s Capital Swim Club http://www.nationscapitalswimming.com
- Arlington Aquatic Club Arlington Aquatic Club Home (teamunify.com)
9. Here are some tips for the "off-season" to ensure that we have an even better year next year!
1. Involve your kids in year-round swimming. It will help them keep in shape over the winter and move their swimming to the next level. There are many winter programs in the area that run the spectrum from Competitive to Recreational with many different price points along the way.
2. Swimmers, brag to your friends and neighbors about how much fun you had with the Dolphins this summer. Encourage them to join us next year!
3. Plan your vacation for August next year so that you can enjoy every Dolphin moment without interruption!. The kids don't want to go on vacation when the pool is hopping anyway. Go in August when the pool is old and boring and everyone else is gone too. The Team needs your swimmers in June and July!
4. Parents, Think about what volunteer job(s) you want to take on next year. Consider stretching yourself and trying something new! Our kids are proud to have their parents involved in something they enjoy.
5. Mark Super Sunday on your 2022 Calendar. This year was different, but next year it should be the First Sunday in May. Register on-line on time so that you are in the loop from the beginning. Keep tabs on the WRA website
And as always, if you have questions, Don't hesitate to contact our Team Reps, Frederick and Tom at [email protected]
Go Dolphins!
Tammy
