    1) Pasta Potluck—Friday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Our swim season officially kicks off with a Pasta Potluck dinner following practice this Friday night at the picnic area in front of the pool. This event is for all Dolphin and Little Dolphin families! So, come meet the Team Reps and Coaches and celebrate the beginning of another fun Dolphin season!

We’re restarting this tradition for the first time since 2019, which means many of our newer Waynewood families have never experienced this event before. We look forward to seeing you there.

Here’s the breakdown for food dishes families should bring:

    • Last Name begins with A-C: Sides and salads (enough to feed 12-14 people)
    • Last Name Begins with D-G: 2 loaves French or garlic bread, cut into slices
    • Last Name Begins with H-O: Desserts
    • Last Name Begins with P-Z: Large pasta dishes

We’re grateful to Jessica Niebuhr for serving as our lead volunteer for this event. You can contact her at [email protected].

    2) Time Trials—Saturday, June 11 at 9 a.m. (warm-ups at 8 a.m.)

It is important for all swimmers (except Little Dolphins) to attend Time Trials. This is where we get our baseline times for the season to determine who swims in what meets.

If your swimmer cannot be at Time Trials on Saturday, please make an effort next week to sign up for the June 13 B meet to get times recorded before the first A meet. If you are new to Time Trials or need a refresher, please read the attachment, “All About Time Trials.”

Sign-ups for Time Trials are already open and will stay open until Wednesday at 8 p.m. Here is the link to sign up: https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/swim_meets

We want every swimmer to swim each stroke they can legally swim. Coaches will assess 10 & under swimmers this week during practices to see who is ready to swim breaststroke and/or butterfly. Swimmers 10 & under can only swim breaststroke and butterfly with coach permission. Stay tuned for guidance on who has permission later this week.

Please note: There is a Swimtopia App for your phone. We encourage you to download it. It allows you to receive weather cancellation alerts, see the schedule, what strokes your swimmer is signed up for, and your own volunteer shifts. The Swimtopia App does not allow you to sign up for meets or volunteer shifts. These must be done via the website.

Check out our handbook (attached and on the website) for additional information and don’t hesitate to contact our Team Reps Tom & Frederick at [email protected] with any questions.

    3) Sport Fair Swimsuits for Sale—Saturday, June 11

Waynewood Dolphins swimsuit vendor Sport Fair will again be on hand at Time Trials on Saturday, June 11, to sell the team swimsuit. However, Sport Fair has communicated the following advisory:

We still have not received our girls size 24s that we didn't have for the first fitting. Arena has had shipping delays …. They got their shipment in, it's on its way to the shipping warehouse, and there is a good possibility they will arrive to us by this coming weekend, but timing may be tight, and if they make it on time, all is good, if they don't, I can take names and deliver to the pool when they do arrive. It's been a different kind of year again.

We love Sport Fair and hope they will have girls size 24 suits (popular with 8 & unders) but if you want another option the girls size 24 Dolphins Team Suit can be ordered here through SwimOutlet.com (though it is about $20 more than what Sport Fair charges). The suit you want is the Arena Women’s Kikko MaxLife in Royal/Multi Royal. Sizing also seems to be a good bit different from last year’s Speedo model, so if you aren’t very sure of your swimmer’s size you may want to wait for Sport Fair on Saturday.

Your swimmer doesn’t have to have the team suit to swim in meets; most sport/racing style suits are legal. Ask the coaches or team reps if you have questions about suits that will or won’t work for meets.

    4) Away B Meet at Mount Vernon Park—Monday, June 13 at 6 p.m. (warm-ups at 5:30 p.m.)

Our first B Meet is Monday, June 13, It will take place at nearby Mount Vernon Park, located at 8042 Fairfax Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308.

Everyone (except Little Dolphins) is allowed 2 strokes plus IM. Parents of 10 & Unders should check Coach Dylan’s list to confirm whether their swimmer is eligible to swim breaststroke, butterfly or IM before signing up. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, June 12, at noon.

Please visit https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/swim_meets to sign up.

Swimmers should arrive at 5:30 p.m. for warm-ups. The meet starts at 6 p.m.

    5) Dolphins Volunteer Shifts

Volunteers are a crucial part of our swim team and your assistance is essential to ensure that the team is well-organized and operates efficiently for the benefit of our kids. We have changed our volunteer requirement system for this season.

Each family MUST sign up to volunteer to work at least 4 shifts if you have only one swimmer (or 2 if only swimmer is a Little Dolphin) at meets and/or social events throughout the season. Parents with multiple swimmers, or swimmers who swim in both A and B meets, are expected to work a minimum of 2 additional shifts for each swimmer.

Sign ups for Pasta Potluck dinner, Time Trials, and the B Meet at Mount Vernon Park meet will go live Tuesday at 8 p.m. At that time, you can select jobs on the Meets and Events page of our website.

For this first opening, we ask you to only sign up for 1 or 2 shifts per family in order to give everyone an opportunity to participate in these home meets. Especially for Time Trials when all of us are working off rust, we highly encourage returning and new parents alike to not be intimidated by roles and try new positions. There is no knowledge or experience requirement for any position open for sign-ups.

The Dolphins are a volunteer-driven team, so we need everyone to pitch in whenever and wherever a role has not been filled!

    6) Dolphins Sponsor Thank Yous

The Waynewood Dolphins would like to thank the following local businesses who have agreed to sponsor the team for the 2022 season:

Businesses interested in sponsoring the Waynewood Dolphins and being included in our promotional package offerings (which start at $150) should contact Sponsorship Coordinator Melanie DeMaria by June 13.

    7) National Anthem Singers

We are looking for a swimmer or group of swimmers to sing or play the National Anthem on their instrument(s) at each of our Home events this season.

If you are interested, please send your contact information, an audition recording, and your available dates to our Team Reps by Sunday, June 12.
