1. Results From A Meet vs. Fairfax Station
The Dolphins faced the Fairfax Station Flyers on a windy Saturday in Waynewood. Although we lost, 249-171, we’re proud of our swimmers for a strong effort against a tough competitor.
- You can find the full results here and the updated individual top times here.
- Congrats to our winning relay teams:
- Mairead Wessel, Kate Hyatt, Heidi Evans, Claire Monnig won the Girls 8 & Under 100 SC Meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:37.68.
- Zack Hickling, James Gallagher, William Herbert, Connor Simonelli won the Boys 9-10 100 SC Meter Medley Relay with a time of 1:35.99.
- Matthew Morris, Joshua Wolf, Caleb Wolf, Ben Henderson won the Boys 15-18 200 SC Meter Medley Relay with a time of 1:56.28.
- Luke Morris, James Gallagher, Moses Wolf, and Joshua Wolf won the Boys 18 & Under 200 SC Meter Freestyle Mixed Age Relay with a time of 2:06.33.
- Photos from the meet are available on Instagram and will be posted soon to Smugmug.
- Team results and league Standings can be viewed at NVSL’s website. You can look up friends from other teams and see how you stack up against other swimmers in our division and in all of the Northern Virginia Swim League.
- Most important of all, Coach Dylan reports that the Dolphins team has now dropped a combined 6 minutes from strokes since Time Trials. Way to go, Dolphins!
2. Monday’s B Meet @ Hollin Meadows
Our next B Meet is Monday, June 20. It will take place at nearby Hollin Meadows, located at 2500 Woodlawn Trail Alexandria, VA 22306.
Warm-ups begin at 5:25 p.m.—swimmers need to arrive well before then. The meet starts at 6 p.m. The meet will proceed in standard order: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley—if time allows. Swimmers are allowed to compete in two strokes, plus IM.
Hollin Meadows will have concessions available for purchase, including water, soda, and Gatorade. They serve Chick-fil-A and a variety of snack items. You pay by cash or Venmo.
Spectators should bring their own chairs and/or blankets.
3. Saturday’s A Meet @ Dominion Hills
Make sure you have indicated each swimmer’s availability or non-availability by 11 p.m. Monday for our next A Meet at Dominion Hills.
Swimmers will be notified no later than Thursday if they are participating in this meet. We will be sending out a list to confirm.
For those who are swimming, plan to meet in the Waynewood pool parking lot at 7:15 a.m. to take attendance and caravan in true Dolphin style! If you choose to drive separately, you are required to email our Team Reps ahead of time. Please remember to do this, we do not want to be calling people worried about replacing swimmers early in the morning.
4. Next Volunteer Slots Open Tuesday
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers! We have filled out shifts at our meets for this week with the exception of 2 slots at Monday’s B Meet. Sign up here. Training provided for new volunteers.
We’ll open sign-ups at 8 p.m. Tuesday for Saturday’s away A Meet at Dominion Hills and the following Monday’s home B Meet against Highland Park. We need to fill all our shifts to run our meets smoothly for the swimmers.
Please note: A Meet timers work the whole meet, just like other volunteers. As caterpillars become butterflies, our timers undergo a metamorphosis at the relay break. Some of our timers will stay in position to time the relays and others become relay take-off judges. Nothing to be afraid of—we provide the simple instructions you’ll need.
5. Fort Hunt Sportsmen Swim Relays—Wednesday @ Stratford Rec Assoc
The Fort Hunt Sportsmen’s Association was organized in 1963 to foster, promote and encourage sports and recreational activities for the youth of our community. This year’s Fort Hunt Sportsmen Swim Relays resume Wednesday following a two-year absence.
The event will be at Stratford Recreation Association, located at 2300 Brinitzer Way, Alexandria, VA 22308. Waynewood warm-ups will be at 5 p.m. It is a seeded meet (swimmers are selected by the head coach, like an A Meet). However, coaches try to focus on B Meet swimmers and don’t work off the ladder in seeding this meet.
- This meet is ALL relays.
- Instead of swimming against just one team, there are a bunch of area teams represented (MVP, Stratford, Riverside Gardens, Little Hunting Park, Mansion House, etc.)
- There are relays where boys and girls swim together, ones that include different aged swimmers.
Please see the attachment for the full list of events. Registration has closed and we are still working to finalize the list of swimmers. We’ll send it around as soon as it is final.
6. Reminder: No Afternoon Practice on Monday and Wednesday
Due to Monday’s B Meet at Hollin Meadows and Wednesday’s Fort Hunt Sportsmen Swim Relays, there’s no afternoon practice either day this week. This also means no 5:30 pm Little Dolphins practice this Monday and this Wednesday.
7. Teen Night—Thursday at 6:30 p.m. @ WRA
The teens had a great time last week for a fun game of Water Balloon Battleship. This Thursday, they’re seeking to organize a game of bubble ball in the park. This requires a critical mass so it’s super critical that teens RSVP at practice early this week. Participants must be registered Waynewood Dolphin swimmers and be 13 or above to attend. Please respect that no exceptions will be made.
8. Spirit Shakers Pep Rally—Friday at 6 p.m. @ WRA
Dolphins of all ages will meet on Friday at 6 p.m. to make Spirit Shakers, paint a banner, and “chalk the walk” with fun Dolphin messages. Coach Dylan asks that swimmers bring a disposable plastic container (preferably with a top/lid) that can be filled and decorated. And, as is tradition, there will be cheers and the announcement of the week’s practice monsters. Don’t miss it!
