2. Monday’s B Meet—Highland Park @ Waynewood
Our next B Meet is Monday, June 27, when the Highland Park Hurricanes visit Waynewood.
Swimmers need to arrive by 4:45 p.m. for warm-ups at 5 p.m. The meet starts at 6 p.m. The meet will proceed in standard order: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley. Swimmers are allowed to compete in two strokes, plus IM.
Please note: We still have some critical volunteer shifts unfilled for the second half of the meet, so please consider volunteering, especially if you have a swimmer signed up for breast, fly, or IM.
Don’t have time for dinner? We’re planning to have a special dinner offering of pulled pork sandwiches and pizza. We’ll have our normal concessions as well.
3. Saturday’s A Meet—Waynewood @ Canterbury Woods
Make sure you have indicated each swimmer’s availability or non-availability by 11 p.m. Monday for our next A Meet against the Canterbury Woods C-Serpents. Their pool is located at 5101 Southampton Drive, Annandale, VA 22003.
Swimmers will be notified no later than Thursday if they are participating in this meet. We will be sending out a list to confirm.
For those who are swimming, plan to meet in the Waynewood pool parking lot at 7:15 a.m. to take attendance and caravan in true Dolphin style! If you choose to drive separately, you are required to email our Team Reps ahead of time. Please remember to do this, we do not want to be calling people worried about replacing swimmers early in the morning.
4. Sunday’s B Meet—Hayfield Farm @ Waynewood
Due to the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 4, we’re moving our B Meet to Sunday, July 3 at 6 p.m. The Hayfield Farm Seahawks will visit Waynewood. You can indicate each swimmer’s availability or non-availability now.
The following day, July 4, the Dolphins are invited to march in the Waynewood Independence Day Parade—an annual tradition. Meet at Waynewood Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. parade start. Wear your team T-shirt and accessorize yourself with plenty of Independence Day bling. On July 4, there will be no Dolphins or Little Dolphins practices.
5. Next Volunteer Slots Open Tuesday
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers! We’ll open sign-ups at 8 p.m. Tuesday for Saturday’s away A Meet at Canterbury Woods and the following Sunday’s home B Meet against Hayfield Farm. We need to fill all our shifts to run our meets smoothly for the swimmers. Sign up here.
6. Potomac Marlins Swim Clinic—Wednesday Afternoon
The Potomac Marlins will offer a swim clinic this Wednesday, which will replace afternoon practice (except for Little Dolphins, who will still meet at 5:30 p.m.).
We’ll have two 60-minute clinics with 45 minutes each in the water:
- 9-10 age group: 3:45-4:45 p.m. (first 15 minutes on deck)
- 11 & up age group: 4:30-5:30 p.m. (first 15 minutes on deck)
This special clinic will focus on FLIP TURNS. They will go through a 6-step skills progression beginning on deck and then in water finishing with exercises in SPEED TURNS and recording individual turn times. In addition to flip turns, this is also a great way to learn about swimming with a club year-round and getting faster times. Learn more about the Potomac Marlins, who are Waynewood Dolphins sponsors, here.
7. Fort Hunt Sportsmen Swim Relays Canceled
Stormy weather forced the Fort Hunt Sportsmen’s Association to cancel last week’s Fort Hunt Sportsmen Swim Relays. Thanks to all of the swimmers and volunteers who signed up for this event. Unfortunately, it won’t be rescheduled. We’ll try again in 2023.
8. Teen Night—Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Our teens are hoping to play BubbleBall, but we need each participant to contribute $20. Please pay Coach Hain or Coach Griffin at practice this week.
9. Can-struction Pep Rally—Friday at 6 p.m.
It’s a pep rally, it’s a food drive, it’s art! It’s also a boys vs. girls competition! Start bringing canned goods, and other non-perishables to donate to United Community to the pool during practices this week. At the pep rally our boys and girls teams will use them as building materials. May the most creative and charitable team win! And, as is tradition, there will be cheers and the announcement of the week’s practice monsters … don't miss it!
10. Divisional Relay Carnival—July 6 @ Waynewood
Waynewood is the host of this year’s Divisional Relay Carnival—a fun event featuring the swim teams from Division 7. We’ll have more details and sign-ups available. Please note that we’ll need volunteers for this event, so mark your calendar and plan to join us.
