    1. Monday’s B Meet—Waynewood @ Mansion House

It’s hard to believe, but our last B Meet is Monday at 6 p.m. against the Mansion House Piranhas. The meet will take place at Mansion House, located at 9321 Old Mount Vernon Road, Alexandria, VA 22309.

Swimmers should arrive by 4:50 p.m. for warm-ups at 5:10 p.m. (yes, the warm-up time is earlier than usual). The meet will proceed in standard order: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley. Our hosts have told us they have a hard stop time of 9 p.m., so while the hope is to get IMs in, everyone should keep expectations in check.

Please note: Our hosts have advised that all families should LOCK their cars. In 2019, a car was broken into at a B Meet when a purse was left in it. They believe it was a crime of opportunity (not a swimmer or swim family) but are asking everyone to stay vigilant and lock cars.

We still have just a couple of volunteer shifts unfilled for the meet, so please consider volunteering. Sign up here.

    2. Results From A Meet vs. Lakevale Estates

The Dolphins faced the Lakevale Estates Dolphins on Saturday in Vienna. Lakevale Estates won, 247-173.

    • You can find the full results here and the updated individual top times here.

      • Ella Stolarz, Fiona Houlgate, Ava Vieira, and Nora Kirby won the 15-18 Girls 200 Meter Relay with a time of 2:20.90.

    3. Relay Carnival Results

The Waynewood Dolphins captured third place at the Division 7 Relay Carnival hosted at Waynewood.

    • A special thank you to all the Waynewood volunteers who lent a hand (and the weather gods) for helping us have a successful meet and raising funds for the team through our concession sales.

    4. Saturday’s A Meet and Senior Day—Ravensworth @ Waynewood

It’s the final A Meet of the season! The Ravensworth Ravens visit Waynewood for our annual Senior Day tradition.

Join us at the pool to recognize seniors Leah Byron, Caitlin Forti, Fiona Houlgate, Nora Kirby, Macy Lindblom, Hannah Lytle, Matthew Morris, and Ella Stolarz.

Make sure you have indicated your swimmer’s availability or non-availability by 11 p.m. Monday for this meet. Swimmers will be notified no later than Thursday if they are participating in this meet.

    5. Volunteer Slots Open Tuesday & New Policy

Thank you, volunteers! We still have some open slots for Monday’s away B Meet, but we’ll need your help for Saturday’s A Meet and Senior Day. You can sign up here starting Tuesday.

We remind all families, including Little Dolphins, that you agreed to the following service requirement when registering swimmers:

[E]ach family MUST sign up to volunteer to work at least 4 shifts if you have only one swimmer (or 2 if only swimmer is a Little Dolphin) at meets and/or social events throughout the season. Parents with multiple swimmers, or swimmers who swim in both A and B meets, are expected to work a minimum of 2 additional shifts for each swimmer.

A family with three swimmers (who don’t swim at A Meets) needs to work a minimum of 8 shifts.

    • Check your shifts on Swimtopia by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner and selecting “My Account.”
    • Questions about your volunteer obligation? Email our Team Reps at [email protected].

NEW VOLUNTEER POLICY: We’re also announcing a new policy related to our volunteer service requirement. Swimmers from families in good standing in meeting volunteer requirements will be given priority going forward for limited slots to IM invitational, Fort Hunt Sportsman Relays (2023), and our Winter Swim program over those from families not meeting obligations. We may expand this policy in the future to other events and opportunities. Team Reps are open to discuss hardship situations we may not be aware of in meeting obligations, but these need to be brought forward before an opportunity is denied—not knowing the volunteer policy is not a valid excuse.

    6. Fort Hunt IM Invitational—Monday, July 18

The 2022 Fort Hunt IM Invitational will take place at Hayfield Farm (7820 Hayfield Road, Alexandria, VA 22315) on Monday, July 18. Warmups begin at 3:45 p.m. and the first heat will be at 5 p.m.

Like an A Meet, the Waynewood Dolphins will send our fastest IM swimmers to this meet and (per our new volunteer policy) we will also prioritize swimmers from families who have been registering shifts as volunteers (or serving as leads) over those who have not.

To be considered for selection, swimmers need to indicate availability here no later than 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12. Please note that while 8 & unders may compete in the 10 & under age group, there is no 8 & under IM age group at this meet.

    7. Dolphin Prom Teen Night—Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

It’s the Dolphin Prom for our teens! Dress is “As Classy As You Wanna Be.” You might want to wear your “sensible shoes” though. …It’s a walking progressive dinner.

Teens should sign up at practice starting Tuesday morning and bring $15 to cover Noodles & Co. for entrees. The path of the progressive dinner is still being finalized. We will share those details later in the week.

IMPORTANT: Participants must be registered Waynewood Dolphins swimmers and be 13 or above on the date of the teen night to attend. Please respect that no exceptions will be made.

    8. Pie in the Face Pep Rally—Friday at 6 p.m.

Our favorite pep rally is just days away—Pie in the Coaches’ Face! A timeless classic involving trivia questions and lots of whipped cream. Of course, we will announce practice monsters and decorate our sidewalks with Dolphin spirit!

    9. Team Photo—Monday, July 18

A heads up that ALL Dolphins and Little Dolphins will gather for the team photograph on Monday, July 18. We’re using a new vendor, so this may be different from how this has been done in the past.

Photographers will start taking individual and sibling swimmer photos at 7:30 a.m. At 8 a.m., swimmers will line up for placement in the Dolphins team photo. Individual photo shoots may continue after the team photo. We’ll send more information this week.

    10. Banquet, Awards Ceremony, and Pool Party—Saturday, July 23

Tickets will be on sale soon for our season-ending celebration at the pool on July 23 from 6-11 p.m. This year's banquet will again be catered by Northside 10.

As a heads up, this year all Waynewood Dolphins swimmers will be receiving a medal at the banquet to commemorate their status as a 2022 Dolphins team member. In past years, this award has been a small trophy. Swimmers who do attend the banquet can collect their medal later in the summer.
