2023 Waynewood Dolphins Season
2023 Waynewood Dolphins Season
March 26th
Hello Waynewood
Dolphin Swimmers and Families!
Summer
is fast approaching and we are gearing up for the 2023 swim season!
This
summer, the Waynewood Dolphins will participate in NVSL Division 10. Because FCPS is
going a week later than usual, we will have three weeks of afterschool-only
practice (rather than two) and our Time Trials (June 10) and first B Meet (June
12) will all occur before school ends. Our full schedule for this summer is mostly
final and available here
(but still subject to change).
Our
first practice will be Tuesday, May 30 and the Divisionals Meet will take place
Saturday, July 22 (this is also when we expect have the team banquet). Because
our Little Dolphins program has to start a week later this season, we’re going
to try and extend these practices for our youngest swimmers through July 27.
For
those wanting to learn more about our team, our 2023 Waynewood Dolphins
Parent Handbook is also updated and available here.
This
email goes to members of last year’s team. If you’re not planning on rejoining,
you’ll get off our email list in May. If you know neighbors who didn’t swim
with us last year but may be interested please forward this to them.
Apply to be a Dolphins Coach:
The
Waynewood Dolphins are looking for coaches for the 2023 Summer Season. Competition
for these positions is consistently fierce. Please be thoughtful and thorough
with your answers and put your best foot forward.
Coach
applications will be accepted until 11:59 pm, Sunday, April 16, 2023. No
late applications will be accepted. The coach selection committee will meet
in late April with a goal of extending offers in early May (with Little Dolphin
coach offers coming later).
Age
requirements for the jobs:
- Assistant Head Coach: High school graduate
- Assistant Coach: Completed 9th grade
- Little Dolphins Head Coach: Completed 10th grade
- Little Dolphins
Coach: Completed 7th grade

online application and apply.
Volunteers
for Officials Needed:
To run a swim meet, the Waynewood Dolphins need to provide a number of officials to make calls and ensure rules are followed. We’re starting to run a little short in this department and need some parents to step up. Being an official requires some training in the spring. One of the benefits of being a certified official is that it fully meets the team volunteer requirement and an official doesn’t have to work every meet. If you’re willing to help us by learning more about what this involves, please reach out ([email protected]).
Upcoming:
Summer Swim Team Registration
We'll
be opening registration in early April and you'll be able to
register through our website. When we open registration, we encourage you to
register as soon as you’re confident you’ll be swimming with us this summer (it
helps us in making decisions about supplies and how many coaches to hire).
Super Sunday & Swimsuits
Super
Sunday is Sunday, May 7. We'll share details and times later
but this is an opportunity to meet Team Reps and Coaches, ask questions, and
buy swimsuits. For the first time in a long time, we expect the team will use
the same Arena swimsuit pattern this season as last season.
Summer Club Prep Opportunities
The
Potomac Marlins are offering a 3-day
clinic over spring break for $75. We’ve been keeping our
eyes open (and even made an inquiry), but we haven’t seen longer summer prep
programs being offered by our two geographically closest local clubs. This
might be related to a shortage of local swim lanes as the Mount Vernon Rec
Center is closed for refurbishment. We’ll keep our eyes open and let you know
if we see anything open. We’ve also have had some success in moving swimmers
from the waitlist into our winter swim program. Let us know if you’d like to be
added to the waitlist.
Go Dolphins!
