1) Home B Meet vs. Mount Vernon Park—Monday, 6 p.m. (warm-ups, 5 p.m.)
Our first B Meet is Monday at Waynewood.
- Swimmers should arrive 10 minutes early for a 5 p.m. warm-up. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
- Since Monday is a school night, we won’t be swimming IMs (but we likely will on 6/19).
- There is no practice on Monday due to the meet.
There is a chance of adverse weather. This could possibly delay the meet start but it’s very unlikely we’ll forgo the meet altogether.
- If we do have a delay, please be flexible—especially if you are scheduled to volunteer.
- If a delay is creating difficulty in your ability to help in a volunteer role, please email us at [email protected].
2) Sign Up for Saturday’s A Meet at Truro
Make sure you have indicated each swimmer’s availability or non-availability by 11 p.m. Monday for our first A Meet at Truro.
- Swimmers will be notified no later than Thursday if they are participating in this meet. We will be sending out a list to confirm.
For those who are swimming, plan to meet in the Waynewood pool parking lot at 7:15 a.m. to take attendance and caravan in true Dolphin style!
- Truro is located at 4146 Elizabeth Lane, Annandale, VA 22003.
- If you choose to drive separately, you are required to email our Team Reps in advance.
- Please remember to do this, we do not want to be calling people worried about replacing swimmers early in the morning.
To learn more, read the attachment: What are A & B Meets and who gets to swim in them?
3) Pasta Potluck Dinner—Friday, 6:45 p.m.
Our swim season moves into full gear with a Pasta Potluck Dinner following practice this Friday night at the picnic area in front of the pool.
- This event is for all Dolphin and Little Dolphin families!
Come meet the Team Reps and Coaches and celebrate the beginning of another fun Dolphin season! We look forward to seeing you there.
Here’s the breakdown for food dishes families should bring:
- Last name begins with A-G: Large pasta dishes with a serving utensil (12x18 disposable pan is recommended)
- Last name begins with H-K: 2 loaves of French or garlic bread, cut into slices
- Last name begins with L-Q: Sides and salads (enough to feed 12-14 people)
- Last name begins with R-Z: Desserts
Families bring these dishes and the team provides beverages, plates, cups and utensils. Consider bringing a picnic blanket as seating is limited.
- Thanks to Stephanie Angle for once again volunteering this year to coordinate Friday’s dinner.
4) Home B Meet vs. Hollin Meadows—June 19, 6 p.m. (warm-ups, 5 p.m.)
Our second B Meet will take place Monday, June 19, at Waynewood.
- The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, June 14, at 8 p.m.
- Everyone is allowed 2 strokes plus IM.
Please visit https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/swim_meets to sign up your swimmer.
- Swimmers should arrive 10 minutes early for a 5 p.m. warm-up. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
There is no afternoon practice on Monday, June 19, due to the meet (but there is morning practice).
5) Fort Hunt Sportsman Relays—June 21, 6:15 p.m. (warm-ups, 5 p.m.)
The 33rd annual Fort Hunt Sportsmen’s Relay Carnival will take place Wednesday, June 21, at 6:15 p.m. at Stratford Landing, 2300 Brinitzer Way, Alexandria, VA 22308.
- To be selected, swimmers need to indicate availability by Thursday, June 15 at 11 p.m.
Waynewood warm-ups will be at 5 p.m. It is a seeded meet (swimmers are selected by the head coach, like an A meet). However, coaches try to focus on B meet swimmers and don’t work off the ladder in seeding this meet.
- This meet is ALL relays.
- Instead of swimming against just one team, there are a bunch of area teams represented (MVP, Stratford, Riverside Gardens, Little Hunting Park, Mansion House, etc.).
- There are relays where boys and girls swim together, ones that include different aged swimmers.
Read the attachment from the Fort Hunt Sportsmen’s Association for more information.
6) Volunteer Sign-Ups for Pasta Potluck, Away A Meet, Home B Meet
We’ll be opening volunteer sign-ups on Tuesday at 8 p.m. for Friday’s Pasta Potluck Dinner, the away A Meet at Truro (6/17), and home B Meet vs. Hollin Meadows (6/19).
- Sign up at https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
Thank you in advance for volunteering! Time Trials went smoothly Saturday because we had a full contingent of volunteers ready to help.
7) Little Dolphins Swim Test
We love our Little Dolphins and our coaches can’t wait to start working with them!
All Little Dolphins will be tested on their first day, Tuesday, June 20 (choose 12 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.) to see if they can swim the length of the pool without touching the side or a lane line.
8) Time Trials Results
We hope you and your swimmer had a great experience at Time Trials. The swimmers did great and we thank all our volunteers!
- If your swimmers are looking for ribbons, please remind them that we don’t do ribbons for Time Trials—their first ribbons will be earned on Monday night at the B meet.
- We will be posting photos to our Instagram and Smugmug pages.
Our data coordinator, Katie Wolf, has the ladder from Saturday’s Time Trials posted on SwimTopia! Click here.
- These are the results for everyone who swam (each age group in each stroke).
- Girls are listed first in age group order, and then the boys.
- An updated ladder will be released after each B meet—the coaches use this ladder for seeding A meets.
If you just want to see your swimmer's times without wading through the ladder, click on "My Account" at the top right-hand corner of SwimTopia and select the swimmer. Click on each stroke to see a history of times.
- Show your swimmer how fast they are!
- If they are sensitive to where they are in comparison to other kids, just show them their individual times and challenge them to outdo themselves next time.
- Or ignore the times—praise their stroke improvement, endurance, sportsmanship, & friend-making skills.
9) Spirit Wear Is Here
Thanks to everyone who picked up T-shirts and Dolphins spirit wear at Time Trials. For those who placed an order but weren’t able to get it Saturday, we’ll have another opportunity soon.
- We are grateful to Katie Mead for serving as our spirit wear coordinator and making sure our team is outfitted with Dolphins gear.
