*New Waynewood Dolphins Record!
As top-18 finishers, the Boys 13-14 relay teams will be swimming at the NVSL All-Star Meet in two weeks. Congratulations to Connor, Marshall, Luke, and Moses!
Meet Highlight: Waynewood Dolphins teams had ZERO disqualifications at Relay Carnival. Had any swimmer been disqualified or had a team placed lower in ANY event, the Dolphins wouldn’t have earned a trophy. It was a true team effort where every swimmer’s contributions were critical to the success.
Fox Hunt @ Waynewood, July 1
The Dolphins won Saturday’s home A Meet against Fox Hunt with a final score of 241-179. The victory makes us 3-0 on the season and in first place for our division. Way to go, Dolphins!
For the third straight week, a Dolphins swimmer broke a record. The latest feat happened Saturday when Caleb Wolf swam 26.47 for the 50m boys 15-18 butterfly. Congrats to Caleb on the accomplishment!
Outstanding Meet Contribution: The Dolphins’ 11-12 boys took 30 of 36 possible points in individual events at the meet and won their relay race. Our group took first place in all four strokes Saturday. James Gallagher, Beau Gibson, Mason LoCascio, Nic Poyac-Clarkin, and Luke Bluey all scored points for Waynewood.
- Team results and league standings can be viewed at NVSL’s website. You can look up friends from other teams and see how you stack up against other swimmers in our division and in all of the Northern Virginia Swim League.
2) Monday’s Home B Meet vs. Hayfield Farm
Our next B Meet is Monday at 6 p.m. against the Hayfield Farm Seahawks. The meet will take place at Waynewood.
- Swimmers need to arrive by 4:45 p.m. for warm-ups at 5 p.m. The meet will proceed in standard order: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley.
If you’d like to eat dinner at the pool, come hungry. Our concession stand will be open with food, drinks, and snacks.
Reminder: There will be NO AFTERNOON PRACTICE Monday.
3) Waynewood Independence Day Parade
Celebrate the Independence Day holiday as part of a Waynewood tradition. Dolphins swimmers are invited to march in the Waynewood Independence Day Parade.
- Meet at Waynewood Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. parade start. Wear your team T-shirt and accessorize yourself with plenty of Independence Day bling.
Reminder: There will be NO MORNING or AFTERNOON PRACTICE Tuesday.
4) Saturday’s A Meet at Mansion House
Waynewood faces Mansion House in our next A Meet at 9 a.m. Saturday. It’s a battle of the two undefeated teams in Division 10. You won’t want to miss it!
- Make sure you have indicated each swimmer’s availability or non-availability by 11 p.m. Monday for this meet. Swimmers will be notified no later than Thursday if they are participating.
Mansion House’s pool is located only about 10 minutes from Waynewood at 9321 Old Mt. Vernon Road, Alexandria, VA 22309.
For those who are swimming, plan to meet in the Waynewood pool parking lot at 7:30 a.m. to take attendance and caravan in true Dolphin style!
- If you choose to drive separately, you are required to email our Team Reps ahead of time. Please remember to do this, we do not want to be calling people worried about replacing swimmers early in the morning.
5) Dolphins Time Drop Report
Coach Dylan tells us the Dolphins as a team have dropped over 14 minutes since the Time Trials meet. Great job swimmers!
6) Teen Night—Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Teens will meet at WRA for a longtime favorite: Book Hunt.
7) Pep Rally—Friday at 6 p.m.
It’s a pep rally, it’s a food drive, it’s art! It’s also a boys vs. girls competition!
- Start bringing canned goods, and other non-perishables to donate to United Community to the pool during practices this week.
At the pep rally, our boys and girls teams will use them as building materials. May the most creative and charitable team win! And, as is tradition, there will be cheers and the announcement of the week’s practice monsters—don't miss it!
SPECIAL PEP RALLY NOTICE: Due to the weather last Friday, many swimmers didn’t have a chance to finish their motivational T-shirts. Coaches will have paint at practice on Monday to help any swimmers with a shirt they weren’t able to finish.
8) Monday Spirit Wear Pickups and Volunteer Thank Yous
We’ll have a table setup from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Monday’s B Meet for swimmers to pick up ordered caps, T-shirts, and spirit wear. We also have a gift for families who have completed their minimum service requirement (even though we’re only halfway through the season):
The Dolphins thank the following families who can collect their newly designed car/refrigerator magnet at the spirit wear table on Monday:
- Andrieu
- Bratten
- Cassidy
- Charipar
- Folts
- Gillentine
- Hickling
- Knapp
- Lewis
- Lozar
- Morris (Chris & Stephanie)
- Popowich
- Promen
- Simonelli
- Zaborski
Volunteer leads and officials should have already received magnets. If you’re a volunteer lead, official, or believe your family has already completed your shift commitment, please reach out to the Team Reps if you haven’t received your magnet.
- The Dolphins Team Reps would also like to thank all our contributing families for moving quickly to fill volunteer needs this season. We’ve noticed a change since last season and we’ve sent far fewer late night emails this season seeking volunteers. Thank you for helping—it makes a difference!
9) Relive the Action: Photos on SmugMug and Instagram
Be sure to visit Waynewood’s team SmugMug page for pictures from each A and B Meet. They’re organized in galleries, making it easy to spot your swimmer and download the images.
- We’re also active on Instagram, especially on meet days and special team events.
