1) 2025 season preview and schedule
Summer is fast approaching and we are gearing up for the 2025 swim season. This season:
- Our full schedule for this summer is mostly final and available here (but still subject to change).
- The Dolphins will again participate in NVSL Division 7. We’ll swim with two other teams returning from last year and three that have dropped down from higher divisions.
- Our five local “B Meet” Monday evening teams are the same as last season.
- First season events:
- The first afterschool practice will be Tuesday, May 27.
- The team Pasta Potluck Dinner is Friday, June 6.
- Time Trials is Saturday June 7.
- The first B Meet with Mount Vernon Park is Monday, June 9.
- The Little Dolphins program for younger and less experienced team members starts Tuesday, June 17.
- The Divisionals Meet for the team’s fastest swimmers will take place Saturday, July 19 and all swimmers and families will be invited to gather together for the team banquet that evening to celebrate the season’s conclusion.
- NOTE: The Dolphins have an “A” Meet on Saturday, July 5. Please consider this (and the opportunity to march in the July 4 WRA parade) when making any holiday weekend plans.
This newsletter goes to members of last year’s team. If you’re not planning on rejoining, you’ll get off our distribution list in May (we appreciate your patience). If you know neighbors who didn’t swim with us last year but may be interested, please forward this to them.
2) Apply to be a Dolphins coach
The Waynewood Dolphins are looking for coaches for the 2025 summer season. Competition for these positions is consistently fierce. Applicants should please be thoughtful, thorough, and accurate with answers.
- Coach applications will be accepted until 11:59 pm on Monday, March 31, 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.
- The coach selection committee will meet mid April with a goal of extending offers by late April (with Little Dolphin coach offers likely coming later).
- Age/Grade requirements for the jobs:
- Assistant Head Coach: High school graduate
- Assistant Coach: Completed 9th grade
- Little Dolphins Head Coach: Completed 10th grade
- Little Dolphins Coach: Must be 14 years of age by June 17, 2025
- Please click here to view the online application and apply.
3) Upcoming preseason events
- Registration: Registration will open on April 5 and you'll be able to register through the Dolphins team website. When we open registration, we encourage you to register as soon as you’re confident you’ll be swimming with us this summer (it helps us with planning and how many coaches to hire).
- Team swimsuits and Super Sunday: Super Sunday is Sunday, May 4 (feel free to wear your Star Wars outfit). We'll share details and times later but this is an opportunity to meet Team Reps and Coaches, ask questions, and buy swimsuits. We will be using the same team swimsuit as last year. Details to come.
- Spiritwear pop-up store: In April or May we’ll be looking to open the online Dolphins merch store so you can get your swag in time for the season. Keep an eye on your inbox for communications from the team so you don’t miss it.
4) Marlins summer prep and learn-to-swim courses
- Fairfax County Parks Authority offers an array of learn-to-swim programs that may help younger, less experienced swimmers prepare for the Little Dolphins swim test (a 25 meter unassisted swim across the pool) or slightly more advanced swimmers considering the Dolphins’ competitive team program for the summer. (Note: the “Summer Swim League” offered by FCPA is not the Waynewood Dolphins summer program).
- The Potomac Marlins swim team (and Waynewood Dolphins sponsor) have posted their 2025 summer prep program for swimmers ages 6 to 18. Registration costs range from $125 to $275. The Marlins offer multiple practice days and locations including the George Washington Rec Center.
- The Dolphins' February newsletter included information on summer prep programs from other swim teams that may help older, more experienced swimmers seeking a boost for the season. Contact Team Reps if you need this information.
