    1) A Meet vs. Hunter Mill highlights

The Dolphins swam to their second straight victory, a 270 to 150 show of strength against the Hunter Mill Sharks. The Dolphins have momentum headed into the Wednesday Relay Carnival contest and upcoming meets with Division 7’s two undefeated teams. NVSL’s meet results are here. Highlights from the Dolphins’ win:

    • Outstanding meet contribution: Waynewood’s 8 & under boys had their strongest showing of the season sweeping two events and taking first in three of four strokes. Altogether, our 8 & under boys scored 28 of the 36 points in individual events. Davis Rukenbrod, Oz Hiler, Jake Wunderlich, Bear Bowman, Darien Hill, and Clement Fowler all scored for the Dolphins. The boys 8 & under 100m freestyle relay team of John Beaton, Hiler, Wunderlich, and Rukenbrod also won their relay race 1:27.34 to 1:57.39. The winning time was the Dolphin squad’s fastest relay swim of the season.
    • Race of the meet: Waynewood’s 8 & under girls swam a gritty 100m freestyle race, tracking on the heels of the Hunter Mill squad for most of the relay before making a late charge on the final leg for a comeback win. Cora Thom, Violet Smith, Lane Blackledge, and Catherine Beaton swam for Waynewood’s 1:28.75 to 1:32.22 victory.
    • Other winning Dolphins relay squads:
      • Boys 9-10 100m medley relay (1:23.70 vs. 1:32.02)
      • Girls 9-10 100m medley relay (1:22.72 vs. 1:27.71)
      • Boys 13-14 100m medley relay (1:01.37 vs. 1:11.87)
      • Girls 13-14 100m medley relay (1:03.91 vs. 1:06.64)
      • Boys 15-18 200m medley relay (2:03.31 vs. 2:10.27)
      • Boys mixed age 200m freestyle relay (2:06.08 vs. 2:11.37)
      • Girls mixed age 200m freestyle relay (2:08.82 vs. 2:10.28)

    2) B-Meet @Hayfield Farm (Monday @6 p.m.)

The Dolphins swim Monday (6/30) @Hayfield Farm Seahawks

    • Arrive by 5:15 pm for a 5:25 pm warm-up. The first meet event (boys 10&under 100IM) starts at 6 p.m.
    • Hayfield’s address: 7820 Hayfield Rd., Alexandria 22315
    • No afternoon practice on Monday (Little Dolphins practice at 12:00 but not 5:30) due to the meet.
    • Notes from Hayfield:
      • “We have a large parking lot. There is also plenty of street parking on Hayfield Road. We ask that no one parks directly in front of the pool (yellow curb lane).”
      • “Team areas are on the far side of the pool. It is a grassy area with some shade and some chairs, but you are welcome to bring … chairs for your swimmers.”
      • “Parents should not be sitting in the team areas. Parents and guests are welcome to sit on the shallow end of the pool at the tables or in the chairs at the pool edge.”
      • “Please note that our baby pool is closed during all meets and we ask that you remind your families that there is no photography or recording devices at either end of the pool/start.”
    • Volunteers: please remember that timers, clerks, and table workers are requested to wear a white top and navy (or dark) shorts/pants/skirt while on duty (with no team logos). We still need more help with this meet, please sign up here
    • Swim schedule: The meet will swim IMs, then freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Our Hayfield hosts have informed us that they have a 9:30 pm hard stop and no events will begin after 9 pm.
    • Food forecast from Hayfield: “Burgers, Pizza and Walking Tacos will be available along with other items. We take cash and card.”

    3) Division 7 Relay Carnival @Waynewood (7/2)

The opportunity to indicate swimmer availability for Relay Carnival is still open until Monday at 11 pm. We also need a handful of volunteers with an emphasis on concessions, setup, and a couple marshal-like attendant roles to help with the larger crowd. Recognizing this is a Wednesday evening and a special event, we are offering double-shift credit to volunteers helping at this meet. You can sign up for volunteer roles and indicate swimmer availability here

A few notes about setup for this meet:

    • WRA will close the competition and main pool on Wednesday afternoon as we start setup for this six-team meet. During the meet, the main pool will be available for warm up and cool down for coach-supervised meet swimmers only
    • Please do not park in the WRA parking lot after this closure – we will have attendants managing spaces for visiting teams.
    • The Dolphins and other Division 7 teams will have their team areas and tents in the field behind the pool. Meet swimmers should report to this field location, not on deck before warm up.
    • No folding or other outside chairs should be brought on deck for this meet. Outside chairs are fine for the team area or for setting up for the awesome view just opposite the fence by the competition pool.
    • Waynewood’s warm-up is at 5:00 pm (please have swimmers arrive by 4:45) with the meet starting at 6:30 pm.
    • Swimmers who ordered a Relay Carnival T-shirt may collect it at the Waynewood team area on Wednesday.
    • The team will use the new ladder from after Monday night’s B-Meet for selecting swimmers. Each gender’s age group will have a four-swimmer medley team and a four-swimmer freestyle team created to achieve the fastest possible relay time at the meet – swimmers may (and often are) chosen to swim in both relays. We’ll share the swimmer lists by Tuesday evening with families who have indicated swimmer availability along with additional details about the meet.

    4) A Meet @Sleepy Hollow B&R, Saturday (7/5)

The Dolphins’ fourth Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) dual-meet of the 2025 Division 7 season takes place this Saturday, July 5. The Dolphins will compete with the Seals of Sleepy Hollow Bath & Racquet

    • Waynewood swimmers available for this meet will need to indicate status by 11 pm on Monday, June 30.
    • We can’t yet open the meet for swimmers to indicate availability just yet but look for it tonight or tomorrow morning – it’s possible we’ll extend the signup again.
    • Sleepy Hollow B&R’s address: 3516 Sleepy Hollow Rd, Falls Church 22042.
    • The Dolphins will meet in the WRA parking lot to caravan at 7:30 am. The first event is at 9:00 am.
    • Please note: Sleepy Hollow B&R is just down the road from another similarly named NVSL team (Sleepy Hollow Rec) – don’t get confused and end up at the wrong meet!
    • There will be an optional team lunch immediately after the meet – details to come.
    • Swimmers indicating availability will be notified of team selections no later than Thursday evening via email.
    • We’ll share more meet details later in the week.

    5) Dolphins Fourth of July

Celebrate the Independence Day holiday as part of a Waynewood tradition. Dolphins swimmers are invited to march in the Waynewood Independence Day Parade.

    • Meet at Waynewood Elementary School at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am parade start. Wear your team T-shirt and accessorize yourself with plenty of Independence Day bling.

Reminder: There will be NO MORNING or AFTERNOON PRACTICE or pep rally on Friday, July 4 (but A-Meet swimmers, and their drivers, will need to wake early on 7/5).

    6) Teen night (mini golf), Thursday (7/3)

Dolphins love rain in the pool, but not so much on their mini golf outings. After a washed-out attempt earlier this season, the teens are taking another whack at Rudy’s mini golf in Alexandria. They’ll meet at the WRA lot at 6:30 pm. Please note it is only for registered Waynewood team members who have already turned 13 (only exception is a 12 year old who has completed the 7th grade).

    7) Dolphin Team T-shirts

If you registered for the Dolphins on or before June 7, we have your swimmer’s team T-shirt and will be at morning practices Wednesday, July 2 from ~8:00 am until 12:15 pm for distribution. If you haven’t yet collected your swimmer’s shirt, please make an effort to pick it up Wednesday. You may otherwise need to make special arrangements with the Team Reps to collect your shirt.
