Waynewood Dolphins Weekly Newsletter -- May 31, 2026
First Week of Practice Complete!
(5/31/26)
The Dolphins first week of practice included reasonable cooperation from the weather. The calendar this year gives the team one more week of practice than last year before meets begin. This leaves us a bit light on announcements for this week. But our cap and shirt order is in and ready for pickup!
This week’s calendar at a glance:
- Monday-Friday—afternoon practice schedule
- Tuesday-Wednesday—shirt and cap order pickup
In This Message:
- Shirt & cap distribution, volunteers needed 6/2 & 6/3
- Welcome Luisa Gallagher as Shadow Team Rep
- Look ahead
1) Shirt & cap distribution, volunteers needed 6/2 & 6/3
T-shirts and caps have arrived for families who registered by May 4 (and a few who registered just a little later may have slipped in too)! Distribution will be this Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3 from 3:45 pm to 6:45 pm.
- We need a few volunteers to help with distribution by taking 105-minute shifts. This is a great opportunity to get a head start on your family volunteer obligation (please register for only one of the two days so that others have a chance to help). Sign-up here after logging into your account.
- Parents or swimmers may pick up shirts at practice (this includes Little Dolphin swimmers even though their practices haven’t started).
- Parents, please check carefully to make sure the shirt and cap your swimmer brings home has exactly the name and size you ordered. It’s otherwise likely another swimmer’s shirt, and we’d appreciate its return.
- If you’re unable to make one of these distributions, there will be other pickup opportunities.
2) Welcome Luisa Gallagher as Shadow Team Rep
A veteran B-Meet head timer and contributor in many roles, Luisa will be working this summer with Team Reps James Connally and Melissa Bluey in anticipation of taking over James’ role in summer 2027 where she’ll continue to work alongside Melissa. Luisa and her husband Brendan have three boys swimming with the Dolphins ages 14, 10, and 8. Luisa and her oldest first joined the Dolphins in 2018.
By tradition, Waynewood is led by two volunteer co-Team Reps who typically serve two- or three-year terms leading parent volunteers, working with WRA, and supporting Coach Dylan in assembling a coach staff for our swim programs. Serving a summer as shadow Team Rep affords Luisa the opportunity to see operations and team traditions up close before taking the reins. The team is deeply grateful to add Luisa’s deep experience as a multi-year volunteer lead to the team leadership. When you see her on deck, please thank her for stepping forward.
The Dolphins are constantly on the lookout for parents who may be willing to step up into future openings for team leadership or official roles, which also fully meets the Dolphins’ annual volunteer obligation. Please email Team Reps if you’re interested in serving in a future role.
3) Look ahead
In next week’s Sunday newsletter we’ll have information about:
- Pasta Potluck dinner (6/12) and volunteer signups
- Time Trials (6/13) and volunteer signups
- The team’s first B-Meet @ Mount Vernon Park (6/15)
The full Dolphins season schedule is available on the website throughout the season.
