Waynewood Dolphins: Super Sunday 5/3, Registration Extended to 5/4
Information on registration, swimsuits, and spirit wear orders
A big Dolphins welcome to new and returning families who have signed up for the season ahead. We’re excited to share that over 190 swimmers have so far signed up for summer swim.
In this message:
- Super Sunday is May 3
- Dolphins team swimsuit purchase opportunity
- 5/4 deadline for priority registration
- Spirit wear orders due 5/4 too!
1) Super Sunday is May 3
Super Sunday will be on the WRA grounds from 1-3 pm rain or shine. Come and meet our team leadership to ask any questions about the swim team. While registration is online, our swimsuit vendor Sport Fair will be on hand to sell team suits (more details below). This is the best and most convenient time to buy and try on a swimsuit.
2) Dolphins Team Swimsuit
The Dolphins have a new team swimsuit this year. We know these suits aren’t cheap and adopting a new model reflects the reality that manufacturers only produce a given model for a few years at a time and then the design changes. The team has to adopt a new model every 2-3 years. Our new swimsuit design is Fireflow (navy/red/white) made by Arena. Costs of suits this year offered by vendor Sport Fair for sale at Super Sunday are:
Male jammer -- $46.20
Female -- $68.53
Male brief -- $38.50
(6% tax not included)
- Pay careful attention to sizes this year – The team is switching from Speedo to Arena. Arena sizes tend to run smaller than Speedo so if you wore a size 26 Speedo suit last year, you might be a 28 in an Arena or need an even larger size if growing. Sunday is a great opportunity to try on the new suit – don’t just assume the Speedo size from last year will be the right fit.
- Little Dolphins can purchase team suits if they like – sometimes they enjoy looking like the big dolphins – but there isn’t a need for it. And there isn’t a requirement to buy a team swimsuit for anyone. A racing-style swimsuit (especially blue or black) can generally get the job done.
- If you cannot attend Super Sunday, you can purchase suits directly from Sport Fair, using discount code Waynewood26 to get the discounted price. Visit or contact them at 5010 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22207; 703-524-9500. Tell them you want the Waynewood Dolphins team suit. The suit may also be available from other online vendors.
- The team is not a party to purchases with Sport Fair, including those purchased at Super Sunday. Any returns or exchanges will need to be worked out directly with the vendor.
While having coordinated suits makes the team look sharp at meets and in photos, many (but not all) suits are legal for NVSL meets. Let us know if you have questions about swimsuits.
3) 5/4 deadline for priority registration
We’ve extended the priority registration deadline to 5/4 to allow families the opportunity to attend Super Sunday.
- What does “priority registration” mean? Team suppliers have advised us to place shirt and cap orders earlier than past seasons to maximize our chances of getting items before the first meets. We suggest families register before 5/4 to be included in our initial shirt and cap order. There will be a second order later in the season, but it won’t likely happen until the season registration is complete and these caps and T-shirts definitely won’t arrive in time for first meets.
- The team welcomes and expects further registrations even after the priority registration period. The 5/4 priority deadline is about trying to get shirts and caps to swimmers before meets begin in June. The team typically continues to add swimmers through the beginning of Little Dolphins season in mid-June so please tell interested neighbors there’s still time to join even after 5/4.
- Here is the link for registration – https://waynewood.swimtopia.com/ (look for the red “Register Now” icon). Please remember that only swimmers registered with WRA as being from dues paying households of current WRA members and WRA approved users are eligible to participate.
- Returning families are asked to log on using the same email as last year. Please do not create a new account. If you have forgotten your password or are encountering a problem, please use the forgot password function or email Team Reps. Duplicate accounts cause problems with team data keeping and must be canceled/corrected. When registering swimmers for the first time, please put the name your swimmer wants to be called in the "first name" section, even if that name is really their middle name or nickname (even though the directions in Swimtopia indicate otherwise).
- Families new to the Dolphins – read detailed registration instructions available here. The only “try-outs” for the team are:
- Our youngest and often first-time swimmers for Little Dolphins (typically age 5-8) must complete a safety swim to ensure the swimmer can make it 25m across the pool.
- For the main team (typically age 6+), swimmers need basic skills – mostly basic front-crawl (freestyle) movements – to ensure the swimmer is ready to have fun and learn alongside teammates.
- The Dolphins team has included swimmers with a broad range of skills from true beginners to NCAA Division I bound athletes, but the team does not offer a program for children unable to swim.
4) Spirit wear orders due 5/4
https://wwdolphins2026.itemorder.com/shop/home/
In order to get everything in this year for both the swimmers and parents to enjoy sporting at the meets and throughout the entire season, all orders are due by May 4.
- Emblemax is running the store again this year and offering a selection for kids and adults. We have sweatshirts, shorts, PJ pants, t-shirts, performance wear shirts, tanks and much more all in both men’s and women’s cuts, and in 2 different colors. Be sure to click on the color drop down when making your selections.
The team sometimes offers a second order window later in the season, but no promises. So, if you want sweatshirts for the fall/winter, this is the best time to order your swag!!
